Unifying infrastructure
After decades of social and political turmoil, a prosperous and united Libya is around the corner. An opportunity has opened up to develop new infrastructure as a way of contributing to national progress post-conflict. Reinforcing the ideas of peace, solidarity and unity, “The Knot” symbolizes the tying together of a country that was once divided.
Due to its location on the route from the Tripoli International Airport to the center, the bridge has the potential of marking the entrance of the city and establishing the identity of a flourishing new Libya, at the heart of its capital. With its arch-like form, it presents a new monumental gateway for the new Tripoli.
The grand gesture of “The Knot” establishes a monumental entrance to a thriving new Tripoli, with the goal of transforming a regular viaduct into an iconic bridge. Made out of concrete and steel, the bridge situates itself on top of a network of highways as a tensile structure. The twisting loop offers different visual experiences both on and under the bridge.
