2022 FIFA World Cup is scheduled to take place in Qatar, which makes the event the first World Cup ever to be held in the Arab World. A bridge connecting the Corniche to the Old Palm Trees Island, where events are planned to take place throughout the course of the tournament is planned.
By connecting the two gangways on the coast to the Old Palm Tree Island in a Y-shaped floating bridge, an unprecedented viewing experience overlooking the high-rises, the gulf, the Museum of Islamic Art and the harbor is achieved.
The floating bridge is comprised of 5 m by 10 m hollow concrete modules which result in a 1400-meter-long promenade that is open for non-vehicular traffic with the exception of bikes, electric scooters and golf carts. Each 40-meter-long section of the bridge makes up for one zone which allows for program diversification and flexibility. The porous yet continuous canopy protects the users from harsh sun exposure while still maintaining a light character.
